Built in 1861, this historic observatory on the Earlham College campus was the first college observatory in
Indiana. Its 1856 telescope was in active use until the 1960s.
In 2002, a new observatory was built on Earlham's back campus. |

This log cabin was Wayne County's original courthouse. It was
moved to this location along the National Road in Centerville and
restored in 1998. Two other buildings have served as Wayne County,

This weir dam on the
east fork of the Whitewater River, alongside Elks Club Road, is a
popular fishing spot. These types of dams can create powerful
circulation patterns which can can submerge a person indefinitely,
making them an extremely dangerous places to swim or wade. |

photovoltaic
system (solar array) on
the south side of the Richmond Municipal Building to assist with
reducing energy costs for the City Building and as a learning tool to encourage

In 2008, Wayne County harvested 59,000 acres of corn* and 66,900 acres
of soybeans*. Average yield for corn was 151 bushel per acre*. Average

The Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church is a local treasurer. The
church, which was designed entirely by Tiffany & Co., was donated by
turn-of-the-century entrepreneur,

Cope Environmental Center,
near Centerville, Indiana, features over three miles of hiking trails
meandering through hardwood forests, grasslands, over 12 acres of
prairie, three wetlands, and two ponds, and a significant collection of
conifers. Hiking trails are free and open from dawn to dusk. |

Many Wayne County cyclists joined approximately 1,300 other riders to
travel from Terre Haute to Richmond, a distance of 160 miles, in one day
by bicycle. The RAIN Ride ends at Earlham College. |

Thanks to the hard work of a team of local youth,
Richmond was awarded the title of "All-America
City" by the National Civic League
on June 19, 2009. The City celebrated the award and thanked the
team for all their hard work with a parade, then free cake and ice cream
at the City Building. This is the second time the
City of Richmond has
received this designation. The first time was in 1987. |

This school was named for
David
Worth Dennis, an educator. He was innovative and influential,
and was one of the first to advocate "modern" laboratory methods in both
Chemistry and Biology. Earlham, where he was a professor, had one of the
earliest laboratories in which each student had access to a microscope.
As a tribute to his outstanding career, the first Junior High School in
the city was named the David Worth Dennis Junior High School and

Michael Holthouse, in which businesses, families, and communities
work together on a fun, family-oriented activity to train youth on how

Fountain City, the future location of the Levi Coffin House State
Historic Site's interpretive center. The Seybold-Price house is
located just north of the Levi
Coffin House and will offer a multipurpose area where Coffin House

infrastructure such as restrooms for the thousands of school children
who visit the Levi Coffin House
