Waynet Board Meeting Present:
Old Business: The minutes of earlier meetings (September 12, 2000 & September 26, 2000) were not ready for approval. Jane Holman and John Webber reported on their conversations with Emmett Smelser, Publisher of the Palladium-Item. Emmett presented P-I’s plans for launching a web site in November and expressed concerns about the potential for competition between that site and WayNet’s new classified ads. Emmett continued to express P-I’s support for WayNet. New Business: Discussion regarding date and time for WayNet Board meetings. No change was made. Question regarding domain service. Jane reported that SkyeNet the owners of infocom.com are moving the infocom servers to a location out-of-state and Jane expressed concern they may want to charge us eventually. Jane asked whether the Executive Board thought that wise and described other options which included a WayNet member’s server (several have volunteered) or getting our own server. The Executive Board members expressed no strong reservations about the out-of-state move but did express concerns about the financial implications. It was left to Jane Holman to negotiate the best arrangements which will provide good reliability, security, access and cost. Review of new Terms of Service Policy proposal. A question was raised about whether the privacy policy should be more prominently displayed on WayNet’s web site. It was agreed that Jane should follow up with a review of the policy by attorney, Steve Rabe. In her report Jane Holman highlighted the growth in the use of WayNet, her past month’s activities which centered on preparation for the Annual Meeting, the distribution of a new brochure as an insert in the P-I and other marketing efforts, and the enhancements to the WayNet site including, new pictures for the Levi Coffin House. Prepared by Thomas G. Kirk, Jr. Secretary October 12, 2000.
