Charles Conner. Considered one of the most
talented early Richmond artists, Charles Conner
(1857-1905) was an integral part of the early Richmond
Group Artist Colony.

Uptown Picnic Mark your calendars
now! The 12th Annual Uptown Picnic which
celebrates local business will be held Thursday, August
2, 2007 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, in the 800 block of
East Main Street. The event is open to the entire
community. Enjoy lunch for only $3.00 including a
grilled hamburger or hotdog, side item, chips, drink and
cookie.
Marching Bands prepare for contest
All five area high school bands will be performing at
the Indiana State Fair this year on Wednesday, August
8th. Appearance times for Wayne County bands are:
Centerville: 2:00 p.m.
Hagerstown: 11:08 p.m.
Lincoln: 3:04 p.m.
Northeastern: 11:24 p.m.
Richmond: 1:20 p.m.
If you won't be able to attend the State Fair, support
your band by attending a practice or their ice cream

Olympic Dream 5K Run and Support Walk
The Olympic Dream Run and Support Walk is being held to
raise money for Cecil Franke who will be competing in
the 2008 Olympic Trials held in New York City in
November. The top three finishers in the trials will
represent the USA in China in 2008. To be held
Saturday, August 4th at 8:00 a.m. at Centerville High
School. Entry fee is only $10!

Chanticleer Quartet
Enjoy a wonderful afternoon of music and at the annual
concert by the Chanticleer Quartet on the Chanticleer
Farm, just off U.S. 27 south of Richmond. This year's
featured performer is Cathy Morris on electric violin.

Gaar Mansion Tour
Tour
the beautiful Gaar Mansion, built in 1876 for Abram and
Agnes Gaar, on the 1st and 3rd Sunday in August from 1
to 4 p.m. The mansion is located at 2593 Pleasant
View Road. Group tours are available year-round by
appointment.
Admission is only $6.00 for adults; $2.00 for 18 and
under.
Original cost to build the mansion was $20,000. It was
completed in 8 months. Complete interior/exterior
restoration of this Victorian style mansion boasts
hand-painted ceilings, parquet wood floors, and features
many original furnishings with their actual bills of
sale. The Gaar Mansion is listed on the National
Register of Historic Places.
